Code of Conduct

Our Commitment

BIOTOLD is dedicated to providing a harassment-free conference experience for everyone, regardless of gender, gender identity and expression, age, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, ethnicity, religion, or technology choices. We do not tolerate harassment of conference participants in any form. This is not just a policy — it reflects who we are and the kind of community we want to build.

Expected Behavior

We ask all attendees, speakers, sponsors, and staff to help us create a welcoming environment by following these guidelines:

• Be respectful. Treat everyone with dignity and consideration. Disagreement is fine; disrespect is not.
• Be professional. Remember that this is a professional setting. Conduct yourself in a way that reflects well on you and your organization.
• Be constructive. Offer feedback and criticism thoughtfully. Focus on ideas, not individuals.
• Listen actively. Give others the space to share their experiences and perspectives.
• Make space for others. Be mindful of how much space you take up in conversations. Encourage quieter voices to participate.

Unacceptable Behavior

The following behaviors are considered harassment and are not tolerated at BIOTOLD:

• Intimidation, stalking, or following
• Discriminatory language or jokes, including those related to gender, race, sexual orientation, disability, or religion
• Unwelcome sexual attention or advances
• Photography or recording of individuals without their consent
• Sustained disruption of talks or other conference events
• Advocating for or encouraging any of the above behaviors

What to Do If You Experience or Witness a Violation

If you experience or witness behavior that violates this Code of Conduct, please take any of the following steps:

• Talk to a staff member. BIOTOLD staff will be identifiable by their badges throughout the event. Any staff member can help.
• Email us. Send a report to conduct@biotold.com. This inbox is monitored during the conference and afterward.

All reports will be treated confidentially. We will listen, take your concern seriously, and work with you to determine an appropriate response.

Consequences

Anyone asked to stop harassing behavior is expected to comply immediately. If a participant engages in behavior that violates this Code of Conduct, the conference organizers may take any action they deem appropriate, including warning the individual, expelling them from the conference without a refund, or banning them from future BIOTOLD events.

Scope

This Code of Conduct applies to all BIOTOLD conference venues, associated social events, and online interactions related to the conference (including social media and community channels). It applies to all attendees, speakers, sponsors, volunteers, and staff.
